After 14 years of successful fine dining at Topes restaurant in Rochester, Julie & Chris had started to experiment with customer’s never-ending demand for good cheese! Slowly but surely, they offered British only cheese boards, and then offered a menu of British, seasonal cheeses from which customers would create their own cheese boards. Over the last two years, starch white table cloths and the need to have three formal courses has gone, and customers started popping in for a cheese board or a meat platter and often a sneaky gin and tonic and the idea for The Cheese Room had begun.
Julie & Chris saw that we want great ingredients, simply presented, layers of flavour, showing local provenance and seasonality and were keen to open a second venue to offer just that. There is a time and place for formal dining and showing off, but The Cheese Room offers an environment created from Chris’ passion for fabulous, good-for-you produce and the built-up knowledge of British cheeses, the skills of the kitchen staff, and over a decade of customer service. The Cheese Room will offer you a unique place to visit. Nothing like it locally, we hope you enjoy.
